Have you put enough things on one lever? Cruise control stuff, headlamp controls, and turn indicators. Plus what ever that P with things on it is. This is on a 2012 Beetle Turbo. Seems like they could've put some of this stuff somewhere else.
But look how happy it looks!

THANK YOU! I kid you not the first time I drove a Jetta I almost ran off the road just trying to set the cruise! It's not that it's difficult, it's just that if you've never done it before in that car simply glancing at the stalk while driving does not give enough information to understand what each sign on that stalk means.
They cheaped out and threw everything on the stalk instead of creating physical buttons on the wheel. Damn VW.

The P thing is the parking lights. If the circuit is enabled and you leave the stalk in either left or right blinker position with the car turned off it'll leave the parking lights on for that side only.

my cars are incredibly simpler than this
jag: lever on right for windshield wipers up for sooper fast not so up for regular fast middle for off and low for intermitting. lever on left for turn signal and you push the button the side for setting the cruise control and pull the lever towards you to flash the hi beams (or hold it to leave them on and let people STARE INTO YOUR BEEEEMSSS)
alfa: two lever on the left the farthest away you twist once for parking lights and twist it again for low beams and push it down for high beams and push it in to flash the high beams the closest one is for the turn signals
the windshield wipers are a button the center console

My car has cruise control, turn signals, and brights on one, lights on the second, and wipers/trip computer on the third.

GM invented the Unistalk in the 80s.
Nice to see it still going strong.

Pull/push to flash brights or turn them on. Push up or down for turn signal. Having cruise control on the stalk and not on my GTI wheel is the best thing ever. The cruise control is also easier to use than other cars with all the buttons on the wheel.

My dad's Isuzu has the same layout as your Jag, except the button for cruise control is on the right windshield wiper stalk.
There are too many damn variations of the stalk layouts.

On my mom's car the cruise is on the wheel and it's not really that bad because you just press "Cruise" and push down on the thing when you hit the speed you want.

I was driving my mom's car (2014 Jetta) and somehow the brights got turned on. It took me a good 5 minutes to figure out how to turn them off...

That's only if the cruise was off, otherwise you just push down on the thing.

My husband's '13 GLI has it, I've driven it on several long road trips and agree, it is very intuitive once you figure out how it works (the cruise control particularly).

Ah, the good old days: https://s3.amazonaws.com/gearbox-yearon…
By the way, that "P" is for parking lights. Turn ignition off and the turn signal left or right and it lights up the tail and marker lights on that side of the car. It's a regulation somewhere in Europe, dunno if it works on a US-spec car.

Former VW driver here (05 Golf GLS): you get used to it. Having wheel mounted cruise controls (like our 04 Passat did) is far easier.

I've got a 2010 GTI, and quite honestly, I don't really mind it. Takes a little getting used to, but once you do, I find it convenient. I think it keeps the rest of the interior kind of clean.
